Help:Edit warring

Subversive Technologies & Countermeasures

Jump to: navigation, search

Edit warring could be defined as two or more editors reverting each others edits in attempt to keep their content as the most current version of a page. This creates some of the following problems:

  • Confusion amongst people reading the page.
  • Flooding of the recent changes and history pages making it hard to understand changes and evolution of the page.
  • Needlessly increasing the size of the database.
  • Reflects badly on all parties involved including WikiSTC.

These types of revision have many motivations but not limited to:

  • Malice against content or user
  • Political views
  • Morality
  • Pride and prejudice
  • Boredom, infantile behavior, etc

To give boundries to these types of behaviors reverting pages policies have been defined and will be stricly enforced.

Some simple guidelines can help keep situations contained until cooler heads can prevail:

  • Give yourself a "cool off" period, step back from the situation and give it time to settle.
  • Ask for others to review the situation, posting on the talk page in a civil way explaining "what you are attempting to accomplish".

If the situation continues to spiral out of control you can request that the page be temporarily protected until the issue can be resolved.
